If your a people watcher like I am! This is the place to be!
Okie Noodling is a big thing in Oklahoma! You catch the catfish with your bare hands!
I asked the guy if I could try it and he said ok.
That fish was huge! Probably 35-40 pounds I could barely pull it out of the water!
When you catch the fish to show it off you have to put it on your shoulder!
You can say I smelt like fish the rest of the night!
The catfish teeth feel like sand paper on your hands and they just keep rubbing their
teeth on you. It didn't hurt to bad it does scar you when it first tries to eat your hand though! You grab the bottom of the jaw (Like shown in the picture) to catch it.
It might not sound fun! But it was really fun! Don't think I could do it in an actually lake though!
They have to keep the fish alive for the weigh in. So Noodling is not cheap!
You have to have a big tank at home to keep them in till the weigh in.
They all get tagged after the weigh in as well so you cant keep the fish and
wait till it gets bigger then come back next year and bring the same fish.
A lot of the Okie Noodlers had scars up their arms from Noodling so much!
But they take pride in their scars, they like to show them off and tell the story behind each scar!
(So happy I didn't know this before I did it! One guy had scars up to his elbow!
My catfish only went after my hand thank goodness!)
This one was the winner! 72 pounds and caught by the girl in the pink! It was so big
they had to have two people carry it!
We will for sure go again next year
(And will have to dress up for the part!)
