Be Prepared

Once a month in Relief Society we have announcements on who wants to buy food storage. And once a month since may I have been trying to buy a little at a time to get our food storage going. Yesterday I took out all the food storage that we have and came to realize... that me and Nick have just Begin preparing for the second coming! And if the second coming or a huge disaster happened today we would probably only be able to survive for... 3 weeks! (If that! Nick can eat!) I looked up a couple of quotes from the presidency threw out the years to see what they had to say.. (Oh I highlighted some things that really stood out to me.)

"From the standpoint of food production, storage, handling, and the Lord's counsel, wheat should have high priority. Water, of course, is essential. Other basics could include honey or sugar, legumes, milk products or substitutes, and salt or its equivalent. The revelation to store food may be as essential to our temporal salvation today as boarding the ark was to the people in the days of Noah."
(Ezra Taft Benson, October Conference, 1973)

“Family preparedness has been a long-established welfare principle. It is even more urgent today. I ask you earnestly, have you provided for your family a year’s supply of food, clothing, and where possible, fuel? The revelation to produce and store food may be as essential to our temporal welfare today as boarding the ark was to the people in the days of Noah.”
(Ezra Taft Benson, Ensign, Nov 1987, p 49)

Noah heeded God's command to build an ark.... that they might be saved from the floodwaters. Yet there was no evidence of rain and flood. His actions were considered irrational. The sun was shining and life moved forward as usual. But time ran out. The floods came, the disobedient were drowned. When God speaks and we obey, we will always be right.

Great trials lie ahead…..and we must prepare ourselves temporally and spiritually…”
Bruce R McConkie

“If 9/11 was a wake-up call, then the earthquake and tsunami in Southeast Asia, was a kick out of bed. We need to pay attention to the signs of the times”Boyd K Packer

“We cannot and we must not allow ourselves to get distracted from our sacred duty. We cannot and we must not lose focus on the things that matter most.”
Dieter F. Uchtdorf

"Recent surveys of the church members have shown serious erosion in the number of families who have a year’s supply of life’s necessities. Most members plan to do it. Too few have begun." Thomas S. Monson

It made me think.. Am I one of the people that see the signs in the world but don't do anything about it? Am I one that focuses on things that don't really matter in  the world?? Will I be the one when time runs out and the floods come, and be like the disobedient and drown..

I hope not! I need to listen and see the signs in the world and always be ready and prepared! I have been getting some emergency kits ready and have all our extra backpacks ready and am finally getting everything in bins and in one place so if we ever had to just grab and go we could.
I know this post is a little intense, but sometimes it is nice to read things like this and to keep us all in check and to see if we are really getting ourselves and family prepared for the worst.

Oh I also have two big bins full of water!
It's a start!

You're doing better than us! That is one thing I really want to do better at. Maybe it can be our goal this year to increase our food storage! Your post has motivated me! Have fun while you're in Utah!!
