Kokopelli St. George, Nicks First Triathlon

Mine and Nick's friends Angela and Ryan Harris got Nick to sign up for his first triathlon. Angela did one a little while ago and Ryan was telling Nick about it and they both decided to do it together for their first time!
Nick has been training for only about three months and he did such a great job. If you really know Nick he takes everything he does very seriously so when he was teaching him self how to swim, he would go on Youtube and watch the best way to breath, stroke, and all that good stuff. (Oh and he would take notes on it too.) He did a great job this summer at going to a pool by our place as much as he could! One day after swimming he came home and was like, So I thought if you just went to swim you didn't have to pay! So this whole summer I've just been walking right in. And today a guy said that I need to pay.. And I said, Oh its not free anymore? The guy was like ummm sir it was never free! hahaha When he told me I was dying! So he went and bought a pass.
For biking, he doesn't have a road bike just a mountain bike to train with. He was thinking about buying a road bike... But those kind of bikes are super duper expensive so he had to use the mountain bike for now.
And then running.. well that ones easy! Its FREE!
Yesterday after work I got home and we drove to St. George and stayed at the Super 8! I know what you're all thinking, (The three people that read my blog) Wow that's classy! We went to dinner with Ryan and Angela's family, some nice people from their ward, and found out the Child's from our ward were doing it too! But the Child's were doing the Olympic one which is double everything the Triathlons did! Wow they are die hard and good for them! :) We ate at Pizza Factory then just went back to get ready so we weren't scrambling in the morning.
In the morning, I was still way tired, I didn't sleep well because I was more nervous then Nick was! I think because I can't swim that I was freaking out that Nick was going to drown! They gave all the beginners green swim caps so that the volunteers would watch after them just in case if they needed saving so that relieved some of my nervousness! The race started at 8:20. It went swim, bike, then run. Swim is half a mile, bike is 12.4 miles, and run 5K.
Before the Race.
And their off! It was so crazy seeing everyone just go at it like that! I was hoping that he wasn't getting pulled under or kicked!
Nick's swim time was 18:00 minutes! He did such a great job! He was one of the first green caps out of the water! I was so surprised to see him get out so fast! He did a great job!!!
With his mountain bike he did it in 49 minutes. There was a huge hill that he had to go up and he said people were cheering him on when they saw that he had a mountain bike. Mountain bikes are heavier so they are harder to ride up hill!
Here's Ryan killing it on the bike and giving us the thumbs up!
Nick finishing the 5K in 26 minutes and has a big smile on his face!
Ryan and Nick at the end when they finished the race! (Sorry Ryan that your eyes were closed! This is the only one I took of you two!) :(
Nicks age.
Him and his bike, his shirt he got, and his medal!
He finished the whole race in 1 hour 39 minutes and 43 seconds. His goal was to finish under 2 hours! He killed it! He took 149 out of 393! Nick and Ryan both finish in the top 20 in their division! Great job Nick and Ryan you guys killed it.
Some crazy things we saw while we were there: In the morning the little kids do their mini Triathlon. It was so cute to see them all decked out in their outfits with their cute little bikes! I swear some were the same age as my nephew that is 5 and just killing it! I want to get my kids in the one day! Better then having them sit at home and being lazy on a Saturday morning!
The swim a guy 31 and a 51 year old came in seconds apart from each other! The first ones out of the water.  It was cool to see a 51 year old kill the swim like that!
We saw high school kids 16-18 year old finishing in the top 50! That is amazing!
